Frequently asked questions
Everything most new students ask before joining the dojo. Something missing? See the contact page. Contact →
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Your first lesson is free: 15 minutes with a teacher, one per account, no credit card. Afterwards you get 30 AI messages to practise with, and PAIdojo's own textbook is free too.
Can I bring my own textbook?
Yes — for a language, or for a school subject (English, math, social studies, science or Thai). Share the pages in your lesson and your teacher teaches from them; afterwards you get a study set made from that lesson.
What do I get after a lesson?
A summary of the key points, flashcards and a short quiz, made from what was taught and checked by your teacher — plus 30 AI messages to keep practising.
Is the textbook really free?
Yes. PAIdojo's own textbook is free while we complete it — every chapter, with a free account. Japanese is complete; other languages are being written.
How do lessons work?
Lessons are live 1-on-1 video calls with a teacher, in your browser, with a shared board. Your teacher sees what you practised and builds each lesson on it. You book with credits; each teacher sets their own price per 30 minutes, and you'll see it on their profile.
How much does it cost?
PAIdojo's textbook is free while we complete it, and your first 15-minute lesson is free. Lessons are paid with credits; each teacher sets their own price per 30 minutes, and you'll see it on their profile. There are no monthly plans.
How do credits work?
You buy credits ($1 = 1 credit): a $100 pack (+5% bonus), a $150 pack (+10% bonus), or any amount from $10 to $500. Each batch lasts 6 months from the day you get it and the oldest is used first; we remind you before any expire. Cancel at least 24 hours before a lesson and your credits come back.
How many AI messages do I get?
10 for free, plus 30 for every lesson you complete (the free trial lesson included). They never expire. They cover Tsumugi, Ask AI and the AI explanations in quizzes.
Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?
Yes, up to 24 hours before the lesson starts. Cancel by then and your credits come straight back. Reschedule instead and the lesson simply moves to another slot at least 24 hours away, at the price you booked — no credits change hands. Later than 24 hours before the start, the lesson is charged. If your teacher doesn't show up you get every credit back, and you can report a no-show from 5 minutes after the start time.
What levels does the textbook cover?
Japanese is complete from Basic to Upper beginner: greetings and introductions, shopping and ordering, and simple everyday conversations. Higher levels are being written, and Thai, English and Tagalog are coming soon.
What is Tsumugi, the AI partner?
Tsumugi is an AI practice partner for between lessons. She speaks with a real voice, uses the words from your chapter and role-plays its situations. She speaks Japanese today; more languages are coming.
What do the teacher levels (LV) mean?
Every teacher holds a public level, LV1 to LV10 — earned through verified credentials, real teaching results, and students who keep coming back. No star ratings anywhere. Each level has a fair price ceiling and each teacher sets their own rate under it — you'll see it on their profile. A lesson you have booked keeps the price it was booked at.
